Open Positions
Graduate students
-
We have one PhD opening position for Fall 2026. Applicants should be self-motivated to tackle challenging research problems and be interested in computational and theoretical research. Experience in one or multiple areas is preferred: reacting flows, molecular dynamics, machine learning, batteries, combustion, or computational gas (fluid) dynamics. Programming skills (e.g., python, C++) are encouraged but not required.
-
Ph.D. application package should be submitted to the USC Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering (AME) program, indicating your interest in working with Prof. Xu. Please refer to the USC AME admission page for details.
-
We welcome M.S. students who have keen interests in reacting flows, propulsion, molecular dynamics, machine learning, and quantum chemistry to join our group. Projects are immediately available for M.S. students in Fall 2025.
-
Prospective Ph.D. and M.S. students may email Prof. Xu with your CV and research interests.
Postdocs
-
We have one opening for fully funded postdoc position. Candidates should email Prof. Rui Xu with your CV, a brief description of your research interests (a cover letter is highly preferred), along with names and contacts of three references.
-
Candidates with backgrounds such as reacting flows, propulsion, combustion, molecular dynamics, machine learning, computational fluid dynamics, and quantum chemistry are encouraged to apply. Programing experience in python is a plus.
Undergraduate students
-
Our group always welcome undergraduate students to join our group. Undergraduate students will be mentored by graduate students, and may work on one to multiple projects, depending on the students' interests. If interested, please email Prof. Xu to inquire potential opportunities.
